Bhubaneswar: The police have come across some vital clues in connection with the mysterious death of Rourkela Assistant Collector Sushmita Minz in the Steel City of Odisha on September 19.<\/p>\n
\u201cA special team led by DSP Banita Majhi is now probing the death case. The police have obtained certain vital clues to the incident,\u201d said Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra today.<\/p>\n
The police have so far interrogated as many as 14 persons, including some family members of the deceased Assistant Collector and government officials, in connection with the death case.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are waiting for the viscera report of the deceased Assistant Collector to get some more clues to the incident,\u201d added the SP.<\/p>\n
The special team has interrogated Gurundia BDO, CDPO, the deceased Assistant Collector\u2019s husband, her male friend, three security guards of a sensory park and a few employees of a hotel in Rourkela in connection with the death case.<\/p>\n
Sushmita, a native of Rambahal area of Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district, was appointed as the Assistant Collector of Rourkela around 18 months ago. She was looking after issues related to land acquisition.<\/p>\n
Sushmita, an ORS officer, was staying in her Rajgangpur home. She used to travel to her workplace at the ADM office in Rourkela.<\/p>\n
Sushmita, however, did not return home on September 16 on the plea that she had an emergency meeting at the ADM office.<\/p>\n
Her brother Sandeep had lodged a missing complaint with Udit Nagar police in the Steel City on September 17 after he failed to trace her at the ADM office.<\/p>\n
On the same day, police traced Sushmita to Hotel Radhika Regency near Rourkela railway station.<\/p>\n
On being informed by the police, Sandeep and his mother reached the hotel to enquire about Sushmita\u2019s wellbeing. Sushmita, however, refused to return home, sources said.<\/p>\n
Later, Gurundia BDO and CDPO informed Sushmita\u2019s family that she was suffering from severe mental depression. Her body was found floating in a pond at the sensory park in Rourkela at around 3 pm on September 19.<\/p>\n
The Plantsite police in the Steel City recovered the body and sent it for postmortem after registering an unnatural death case in this regard.<\/p>\n
The postmortem suggested that Sushmita had died due to drowning. Sushmita\u2019s brother Sandeep, however, alleged that she has been murdered by some influential people.<\/p>\n
He alleged that Sundargarh Collector, Rourkela ADM, Gurundia Block Development Officer, Gurundia Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and a woman Sub-Inspector of Odisha Police were behind Sushmita\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
The deceased Assistant Collector\u2019s family had sought a CBI probe into the incident.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
