{"id":17814,"date":"2024-01-06T15:24:33","date_gmt":"2024-01-06T15:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenftimes.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/06\/wheres-the-wagh-nakh-of-chhatrapati-maha-cong-leader-taunts-bjp-minister-n-f-times\/"},"modified":"2024-01-06T15:24:34","modified_gmt":"2024-01-06T15:24:34","slug":"wheres-the-wagh-nakh-of-chhatrapati-maha-cong-leader-taunts-bjp-minister-n-f-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenftimes.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/06\/wheres-the-wagh-nakh-of-chhatrapati-maha-cong-leader-taunts-bjp-minister-n-f-times\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Where\u2019s the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 of Chhatrapati\u2019, Maha Cong leader taunts BJP minister &#8211; N.F Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Mumbai: The issue of the famed \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 (tiger-claws) \u2014 said to be used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to kill the treacherous General Afzal Khan of the Bijapur Sultanate in November 1659 \u2013 displayed at the Victoria &amp; Albert Museum (V&amp;AM) in London, suddenly came alive on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Congress\u2019 Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, took a potshot at BJP\u2019s Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on his promise of bringing back the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 for the people of India to view and marvel.<\/p>\n<p>Mungantiwar, along with other officials, had made a high-profile trip to London in the first week of October 2023 to sign an agreement with the V&amp;AM to loan the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 made of dark steel to India for three years from November 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Taking to social media, Wadettiwar said November has gone and even January is almost ending, \u201cwhere has the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 reached so far?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou used government funds for publicity and went to London on tourism in the name of the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019, but returned empty-handed. You have assured us that the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 will be received in November\u2026 that is gone, 2024 has dawned, and now even January is ending,\u201d Wadettiwar said.<\/p>\n<p>He sarcastically added that since the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 has not come to India so far, \u201cwill you go on another London trip to fetch it or give us a fresh date\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mungantiwar has not responded to Wadettiwar\u2019s comments so far.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling MahaYuti government of Shiv Sena-BJP had first announced in December 2022 that it was engaged in discussions with the British government and the V&amp;AM for the return of the \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019, which is part of Maharashtra\u2019s folklore.<\/p>\n<p>The army chief of Bijapur\u2019s Adil Shahi dynasty, Afzal Khan \u2013 who had invited Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to his camp for a peace meeting in his deluxe camp at the foothills of Pratapgad Fort \u2013 was vanquished in the historic Battle of Pratapgad in Satara (November 1659).<\/p>\n<p>After the meeting failed, Afzal Khan attempted to embrace Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a killer hug, but the latter used his concealed killer set of \u2018wagh-nakh\u2019 to seriously wound and disembowel him.
