Washington: US Vice President Kamala Harris called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on Sunday, March 3. She also urged Israel to increase the flow of aid to combat the \u201cinhumane\u201d conditions and a \u201chumanitarian catastrophe\u201d among the people in Palestine.<\/span><\/p>\n Harris made the remarks while speaking at an event in Selma, Alabama, to commemorate the anniversary of \u2018Bloody Sunday.\u2019 \u201cPeople in Gaza are starving. The conditions are inhumane and our common humanity compels us to act,\u201d Harris reportedly said. \u201cThe Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid. No excuses.\u201d<\/p>\n An Israeli newspaper reported that after Hamas refused to provide the names of hostages that are still alive, Israel boycotted Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo on Sunday.<\/p>\n \u201cHamas claims it wants a ceasefire. Well, there is a deal on the table. And as we have said, Hamas needs to agree to that deal,\u201d Harris said. \u201cLet\u2019s get a ceasefire. Let\u2019s reunite the hostages with their families. And let\u2019s provide immediate relief to the people of Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, on February 26, President Joe Biden said that he hopes there will be a ceasefire by \u201cnext Monday\u201d in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. On being asked when a ceasefire may begin, Biden said during an appearance at an ice cream shop in New York city, with comedian Seth Meyers, \u201cWell I hope by the beginning of the weekend, I mean, the end of the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMy national security adviser tells me that we\u2019re close. We\u2019re close, it\u2019s not done yet.
