New Delhi: Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal issued a clarification amid backlash on social media over food delivery company\u2019s new \u2018pure veg fleet\u2019. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, \u201cWhile we are going to continue to have a fleet for vegetarians, we have decided to remove the on-ground segregation of this fleet on the ground using the colour green. All our riders \u2014 both our regular fleet, and our fleet for vegetarians, will wear the colour red.\u201d<\/p>\n
This comes after Zomato announced a dedicated fleet intended to exclusively serve orders from \u2018pure veg\u2019 restaurants and said that these deliveries will be made in distinctive green boxes.<\/p>\n
Deepinder Goyal said, \u201cThis means that the fleet meant for vegetarian orders will not be identifiable on the ground (but will show on the app that your veg orders will be served by the veg only fleet).\u201d<\/p>\n
Citing safety of delivery partners as a reason, he said that the change \u201cwill ensure that our red uniform delivery partners are not incorrectly associated with non-veg food, and blocked by any RWAs or societies during any special days\u2026 our rider\u2019s physical safety is of paramount importance to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Accepting his mistake, Zomato CEO said, \u201cWe now realise that even some of our customers could get into trouble with their landlords, and that would not be a nice if that happened because of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also thanked social media users for their views on the company\u2019s move saying, \u201cAll the love, and all the brickbats were all so useful \u2013 and helped us get to this optimal point. We are always listening, without unnecessary ego, or pride. We look forward to continue serving you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
