New Delhi:<\/strong> Indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system Kavach deployed on 1465 Route km and 144 locomotives on South Central Railway, informed Minister of Railway <\/span>Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha<\/span>\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n The funds utilized on Kavach works so far is \u20b91216.77 Cr and the allocation of funds during the year 2024-25 stands at \u20b91112.57 Cr. Funds sanctioned for Kavach are being used for Kavach only.<\/p>\n Kavach is an ATP system and a highly technology-intensive system, which requires safety certification of the highest order. Kavach aids the loco pilot in trains running within specified speed limits by automatic application of brakes in case the Loco Pilot fails to do so and also helps the train safely run during inclement weather.<\/p>\n Kavach has been certified for the highest level of Safety Integrity Level \u2013 SIL4 by an Independent Safety Assessor and reduces the probability of train collisions in block sections and on running lines at stations through its non-SIL features. With this, Kavach has the potential for adoption by other countries<\/p>\n Implementation of Kavach involves the execution of many activities, such as:<\/p>\n \u00a0a<\/strong>. Installation of Station Kavach at each and every station.<\/p>\n b<\/strong>.\u00a0 Installation of RFID tags throughout the track length.<\/p>\n c<\/strong>.\u00a0 Installation of Telecom Towers throughout the section.<\/p>\n d<\/strong>.\u00a0 Laying of optical Fibre cable along the track.<\/p>\n e<\/strong>.\u00a0 Provision of Loco Kavach on each and every Locomotive running on Indian Railways.<\/p>\n Kavach has so far been deployed on\u00a01465 Route km\u00a0and\u00a0144 locomotives (including Electric Multiple Unit rakes) on the South Central Railway.<\/p>\n Presently, the progress of main items related to Kavach on Delhi\u2013 Mumbai & Delhi\u2013 Howrah corridors (approximately 3000 Route km) is as under:<\/p>\n (i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Laying of Optical Fibre Cable: 4275 Km<\/p>\n (ii)\u00a0 Installation of Telecom Towers: 364 Nos.<\/p>\n (iii) Provision of Kavach equipment at Stations: 285 Nos.<\/p>\n (iv) Provision of Kavach equipment in Loco: 319 Locos<\/p>\n (v)\u00a0 Installation of Kavach Trackside equipment: 1384 Route Km.<\/p>\n Further, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and Detailed Estimate on another\u00a0 6000 RKms are approved by Indian Railways. To increase capacity and scale up implementation, trials of more OEMs are at different stages.<\/p>\n Kavach 4.0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n On 16.07.2024, the Kavach 4.0 specification was approved by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). This version covers all the major features required for the diverse railway network. This is a significant milestone in safety for Indian Railways.
