London: A six-year-old girl was recently denied a passport because she was named after a popular \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019 character. Her mother Lucy told BBC that the officials told her that the passport application for Khaleesi needed Warner Brothers\u2019 approval since they own the name\u2019s trademark, as per a report in BBC.<\/p>\n
Notably, Khaleesi was the title given to Emilia Clarke\u2019s character Daenerys Targaryen in the show.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was absolutely devastated, we were so looking forward to our first holiday together,\u201d Lucy said. The family were planning their \u201cdream\u201d vacation to Disneyland Paris.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut then I had a letter come through from the Passport Office, saying her name is trademarked by Warner Brothers. It was the first I\u2019ve heard of such a thing \u2013 I was astonished,\u201d the 39-year-old continued.<\/p>\n
Her lawyers looked into it and found that, although \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019 is trademarked, it is for products and services, it is not for a person\u2019s name. \u201cThat information was sent to the Passport Office who said I would need a letter from Warner Brothers to confirm my daughter is able to use that name,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe advised me that they should be able to process my daughter\u2019s passport now,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Lucy continued, \u201cIf I hadn\u2019t posted this on social media, nothing would have been done. I would have been stuck, not knowing what to do. People contacted me about similar experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n
The mother-daughter duo are hoping that they can visit Disneyland Paris shortly. \u201cI am hoping the passport will be issued soon and was promised that they would call back in a few days to see if it had progressed,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think there might be other people in this situation, that they may have had their passports declined recently because of something like this. Hopefully, they now know it can be resolved,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson of the Home Office said: \u201cWe can confirm the application is being processed and apologise to the family for the delay.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
