{"id":45748,"date":"2024-09-23T08:03:30","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T08:03:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenftimes.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/23\/laapataa-ladies-picked-as-indias-entry-for-oscars-2025-n-f-times\/"},"modified":"2024-09-23T08:03:32","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T08:03:32","slug":"laapataa-ladies-picked-as-indias-entry-for-oscars-2025-n-f-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenftimes.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/23\/laapataa-ladies-picked-as-indias-entry-for-oscars-2025-n-f-times\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Laapataa Ladies\u2019 Picked as India\u2019s Entry for Oscars 2025 &#8211; N.F Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cLaapataa Ladies\u201d by Kiran Rao has been selected as India\u2019s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, the Film Federation of India announced on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>This Hindi film, a humorous critique of patriarchy, was chosen from among 29 films, including the Bollywood hit \u201cAnimal\u201d, the Malayalam National Award-winning \u201cAattam\u201d, and the Cannes laureate \u201cAll We Imagine As Light\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The selection committee of 13 members, led by Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua, unanimously chose \u201cLaapataa Ladies\u201d, produced by Aamir Khan and Rao, to compete in the best international film category at the Academy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to \u201cLaapataa Ladies\u201d, the Hindi film \u201cSrikanth\u201d, Tamil films \u201cVaazhai\u201d and \u201cThangalaan\u201d, and the Malayalam film \u201cUllozhukku\u201d were the top contenders from the list of 29 titles.<\/p>\n<p>Released in March to critical acclaim, \u201cLaapataa Ladies\u201d offers an endearing and empowering story of two brides from rural India in 2001 who are mistakenly exchanged during a train journey. The film is a production of Rao\u2019s Kindling Productions, Aamir Khan Productions, and Jio Studios.<\/p>\n<p>The cast includes Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastav in leading roles, with Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma, and premiered globally at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Other films in the selection were the Tamil \u201cMaharaja\u201d, Telugu \u201cKalki 2898 AD\u201d and \u201cHanu-Man\u201d, and the Hindi \u201cSwatantraya Veer Savarkar\u201d and \u201cArticle 370\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Since \u201cLagaan\u201d, starring Aamir Khan in 2002, no Indian film has been nominated for the best international feature film at the Oscars. The only other Indian films to reach the final five were \u201cMother India\u201d starring Nargis and Mira Nair\u2019s \u201cSalaam Bombay!\u201d.
