Ranchi:<\/strong> Jharkhand, which used to export mica to the world, is again in the news\u2026this time for reserves of lithium \u2013 the \u201ccosmic\u201d mineral which is needed as part of country\u2019s energy security plans.<\/p>\n Lithium is being seen as a gamechanger mineral to achieve the goals of zero carbon green\u00a0energy in the coming years all over the world.<\/p>\n Large reserves of precious mineral in the state have also created immense possibilities for the\u00a0battery-based electric vehicle industry in the country.<\/p>\n Apart from electric vehicles, lithium is used in medical technology, electronics industry,\u00a0mobile phones, solar panels, wind turbines and other renewable technologies.<\/p>\n In a geological survey, the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) has found that\u00a0Koderma and Giridih in Jharkhand have large reserves of many rare minerals besides\u00a0lithium.<\/p>\n Recently, Geological Survey of India had found reserves of 1600 tonnes of lithium in\u00a0Karnataka and 59 lakh tonnes of lithium reserves in Jammu and Kashmir\u2019 Reasi district.<\/p>\n Now, apart from Koderma, Giridih in Jharkhand, work is underway on the possibilities of\u00a0extraction of lithium in East Singhbhum and Hazaribagh.<\/p>\n Geochemical mapping in and around Tilaiya block of Koderma district of Jharkhand has\u00a0revealed high concentrations of lithium, cesium and other minerals.<\/p>\n Currently, the country\u2019s electric vehicle industry is still completely dependent on imports for\u00a0its lithium requirements. Currently lithium is imported mainly from China.<\/p>\n The Central government has set a target to increase EV adoption by 30 per cent by 2030.<\/p>\n Lithium is the most essential mineral to achieve this goal. Therefore, the government has\u00a0special focus on the possibilities of exploration of lithium.<\/p>\n After Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir, lithium reserves in Jharkhand are being\u00a0considered very important from the future point of view.<\/p>\n According to the survey of GSI, apart from Lithium in Tilaiya block of Koderma and\u00a0Dhodhakola-Kusuma belt of Jharkhand, there is a possibility of reserves of metals like Li (Li),\u00a0Cesium, REE and RM in Gawan block of Giridih and Pihra belt of Koderma.<\/p>\n On September 29, a high-level meeting of the Geological Council of the Government of\u00a0Jharkhand was held on the matter.<\/p>\n The government has started working on the possibilities of lithium mining in the state and\u00a0investors have also evinced interest in it.<\/p>\n In June, Pan Asia Metals Ltd Chairman-cum-Managing Director Paul Lock had met Jharkhand\u00a0Chief Minister Hemant Soren and discussed the possibilities of investment in the field of\u00a0lithium mining in the state.<\/p>\n Soren had said the state government will work in a planned manner on the possibilities of\u00a0lithium production as per the rules.<\/p>\n According to experts, if India becomes self-sufficient in lithium production, then electric\u00a0batteries will become cheaper and ultimately the price of electric cars will also reduce.<\/p>\n (IANS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
