Odisha braces for heavy rainfall as Cyclone MICHAUNG to make landfall today – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy rainfall as Cyclone MICHAUNG will make landfall today.

The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued Orange and Yellow Warnings for various districts in this connection.

Below is day-wise forecast for Odisha.

December 5: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam (Orange Warning).

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Puri (Yellow Warning).

December 6: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada (Yellow Warning).

The Meteorological Centre has also issued wind warning for Odisha in connection with the system.

“Squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is prevailing, it is likely to gradually increase becoming 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph from 5th December evening for subsequent 12 hours. It would gradually decrease thereafter. Also, strong surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph likely over Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts of Odisha on 5th December,” the Meteorological Centre said in a bulletin, this morning.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal till 6th December.

The cyclonic storm is likely to cross south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla during forenoon of 5th December as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.
