IGP URGES STUDENTS TO ENSURE PEACEFUL CAMPUS ELECTIONS

CUTTACK.11/10(n.f.t): Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, Dr Satyajit Nayak, IPS, has appealed to students to maintain peace, discipline and harmony during campus elections and ensure that the electoral process is conducted peacefully.

He urged student candidates and their supporters to uphold democratic values, respect healthy competition and refrain from violence, intimidation or any activity that could disrupt the academic environment.

Emphasising the importance of responsible leadership and democratic participation, Dr Nayak said campus elections should serve as a platform for constructive engagement and mutual respect rather than confrontation.

The IGP has directed police officers under the Central Range to remain vigilant and make adequate security arrangements to ensure peaceful polling and counting. Superintendents of Police and other officers have been instructed to pay special attention to educational institutions identified as sensitive and take appropriate preventive measures to maintain law and order.

The police have also been asked to prevent unauthorised outsiders from entering campuses with the intention of creating disturbances and to take prompt legal action against any unlawful activity.

Dr Nayak appealed to students to cooperate with the police and college authorities, adhere to election guidelines and uphold the dignity of their respective institutions.

He stressed that peaceful campus elections are a collective responsibility and called upon students to set a positive example through discipline, tolerance and respect for democratic principles.

The objective is to ensure that campus elections remain a celebration of democratic participation while preserving peace and the academic atmosphere of educational institutions.
