Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday arrested a woman for allegedly forcibly entering the residence of Polasara MLA Srikanta Sahu demanding recognition as his wife.

The accused woman, identified as Sanjukta Mahala, was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

As per reports, Sanjukta went to the legislator’s house at Hatiota in Polasara, sparking a high drama at the MLA’s residence.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the MLA’s father, police arrested the woman. Sanjukta alleged that she felt compelled to enter the legislator’s residence to assert her status as his wife after police failed to give her justice.

Last year in July, Sanjukta had accused the MLA of subjecting her to physical and mental torture during their “nine-year relationship”. She had lodged a complaint with the Bhubaneswar Mahila Police Station, subsequently petitioning the Orissa High Court, alleging improper handling of her case by the authorities.
