Decomposed carcass of tusker found at Baliama foothill in Odisha’s Sambalpur – N.F Times



Bamra: The decomposed carcass of a tusker was spotted by some locals at Baliama foothill and near a road connecting Sarada under Jamankira range of Bamra forest division in Sambalpur district, today.

According to an official source, the elephant was around eight years of age. The animal might have died around 4 to 5 days ago due to an infight between the members of a herd. The services of a joint task force (JTF) have been sought and the team is to arrive from Bhubaneswar.

On being informed, the local regional chief conservator of forests (RCCF) and divisional forest officer (DFO) reached the spot and initiated a probe into the jumbo’s death.

The exact reason behind the pachyderm’s death has not been ascertained yet, Sambalpur RCCF T. Ashok Kumar expressed.

“We are awaiting a post-mortem report which will help confirm the cause of death,” the official said.

“A team of veterinary experts is also coming from Bhubaneswar,” the RCCF added.
