“In the rapidly changing world, HR policies must focus on business strategy, analytics and most importantly people,” says DIC, RSP addressing the Heads of Personnel of SAIL

Rourkela : “In the rapidly changing world, HR must focus on business strategy, analytics and most importantly people,” said Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) while addressing in the inaugural session of Heads of Personnel Meeting being organised at Rourkela house on 25th November, 2022. The 2-Day Meeting is being attended by Mr. K K Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL, Mr. Samir Swarup, ED (Personnel), Corporate Office, SAIL, Heads of Personnel of different Units of SAIL besides Senior Officers of HR and Personnel Department of all SAIL Units.
Speaking further the Director In-Charge said, “To usher in the organization of future, our HR policies must be calibrated with time to make them more flexible and people friendly.” He also deliberated upon the various critical core issues to focus for HR to meet the future challenges. These included imbibing a sense of belongingness and pride amongst the employees, Attracting and retaining talents, HR in line with Industry 4.0, Competency Building, Harnessing Creativity, Employee Engagement, Workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion and Work-life balance. The DIC also stressed on tapping the potential of the young educated work force and also developing skills of outsourced employees. He spoke about the steps taken at RSP to upgrade the skill set of the people and also create a talent pool in the vicinity. He expressed hope that the HR brainstorming session would help to strengthen the human capital and achieve the goals of the organisation.
In his address, Mr. K K Singh said, “Personnel and Training functions need to work in tandem, so that HR can flourish. The involvement of people is paramount and crucial to achieve HR goals.” He stressed on trust and transparency in service that will help steer the organization forward in the most professional way. Mr. Singh urged the HR fraternity to play an active role in engaging more with people especially the outsourced employees who are also the partners in the progress of the company. The Director (Personnel) also spoke about Rourkela, where there’s lot of euphoria over the forthcoming Hockey world cup, has transformed and changed the narrative.
Mr. Swarup in his address deliberated upon the different focus areas of the organization and the performance of different units with respect to those. He thanked RSP for extending all the facilities to host the first ever Heads of Personnel Meeting at Rourkela.
At the outset, Mr. P K Satapthy, ED (P&A), RSP welcomed the gathering. He also moderated the inaugural session.Later in the afternoon the dignitaries visited ‘Deeksha-Ispat Surakha Koushal Kendra’ and CSR initiative ‘Deepika Hast Kargha’. Detailed deliberations and brainstorming on various HR functionalities of SAIL is being held during the two day programme.
