Two Affected In Anthrax Outbreak In Koraput – N.F Times


Koraput: Two persons have been affected by suspected anthrax in Devighat village under Koraput block in the district.

The two patients have been identified as Adu Jani (50) and Bhagwan Kirisani (45).

The two patients are undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of Mathalput CHC, said Dr Muktikant Khatua, PIO of the District Headquarters Hospital.

According to reports, about ten families in Devighat village ate dead beef two days ago. Due to this, they were affected by anthrax disease.

Upon receiving the information, a medical team reached there and surveyed 410 people. Samples of as many as six persons were sent for testing and two among those samples were found positive.

The CDMO has directed the affected persons to remain in isolation to check the further spread of the disease.

Incidentally, Koraput is the epicentre of anthrax in the State and the disease is usually found at the beginning of the rainy season.
