Bhubaneswar: The Central government has appreciated the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment in the Odisha Government for achieving a remarkable feat in promoting and reviving Millets (Shree Anna) during the International Year of Millets 2023.
The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has awarded a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ to the Odisha Agriculture Department for significant contribution and achievement in the Millets Mission.
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2023 as the International Year of the Millet on the proposal of India supported by 72 countries.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has expressed its appreciation for the active participation and cooperation of the Odisha Agriculture Department for its extensive programmes in the International Year of Millets 2023.
The Union Agriculture Secretary has said that Principal Secretary Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee’s dedicated initiatives have helped turn the International Millet Mission into a mass movement.
“Odisha’s enthusiastic involvement in promoting Shree Anna has not only helped in the revival of ancient grains but also helped create awareness about its rich nutritional, economic and environmental benefits. This certificate has been given as a token of appreciation for the remarkable contribution of the state in the International Year of Millets 2023,” read an official communique.
The Ministry is hopeful that the continuous cooperation and support of the State’s Agriculture Department for the promotion of Shree Anna (Millets) will continue in the coming days, it further read.
