Vienna: During his first visit to Austria, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the strategic partnership between their countries.

In a joint press conference, PM Modi emphasized the need to avoid war and explored opportunities for cooperation with Austria in infrastructure development, renewable energy, hydrogen, water and waste management, and artificial intelligence.

PM Modi expressed his satisfaction in visiting Austria at the onset of his third term, noting the historic nature of the visit as it marked the first time an Indian PM had visited Austria in 41 years. He highlighted the significant discussions with Chancellor Nehammer, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and giving them a strategic direction in various sectors.

The Prime Minister also addressed global issues such as the Ukraine war and the situation in West Asia during his meeting with the Austrian leader, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy over war and underscoring the untenable nature of conflicts that lead to the loss of innocent lives.

PM Modi underscored the shared values of democracy and the rule of law as the cornerstone of the relationship between India and Austria. Additionally, he condemned terrorism and reiterated the need for both countries to work together on addressing fundamental global challenges like climate change.

Furthermore, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to peace during his recent meeting with President Putin and emphasized that peace cannot be achieved through violent means.
