Andy Murray, the former world number one in men’s tennis, announced on Tuesday that the Paris 2024 Olympics tennis competition will mark the end of his career.

The two-time Olympic singles gold medalist is set to represent Great Britain in the games, which begin on July 26.

Breaking the news of his retirement, Murray wrote on ‘X:

 

Murray claimed his first Olympic gold on the grass courts of Wimbledon during the 2012 London Olympics, defeating Roger Federer in straight sets, and successfully defended his title at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics against Juan Martin del Potro on hard courts.

This month, he withdrew from the Wimbledon singles competition following a procedure to remove a spinal cyst.

The tennis events at the Paris Games are scheduled to commence on July 27 and will run until August 4.

The matches are set to take place at the renowned Roland Garros venue.
