Bureau Head : The total anatomy of electricity maintenance, services and its utility of the agency working for Jeypore municipality in connection with the street lights of different wards and colonies including parks have gone so adversely affected that demands either overhauling or replacement of the agency in charge of entire township. People lodge complaints, register the problems but due to shortage of adequate staff or nonpayment of salaries, the services expected by the general public is not only too late but has become a matter of headache for even the counsellors including the executive officer of the oldest municipality of southern odisha next to Berhampur.
Our team, after receiving a series of street lights complaints from a vast chunk of general people, wanted to learn from the executive officer Er. Siddhartha Patnaik of Jeypore municipality the reason for poor and pitiable electricity services and also from Mr. Sushil Sahani, an official employee of the agency. The answers being collected was astounding and unfortunate. The EESL, the agency in charge of the electricity issues of the town has been allegedly reported for undertaking no botheration nor any concerns for services.It was learnt that this issue has been brought to the notice of the Principal secretary Urban development by the municipality officials but no move being initiated is very unfortunate.
Some general public while, not getting redressal of their street lights problems even after lodging complaints have lost hopes from the agency. As per the general discussion from the public gatherings, no complaints nor any allegations against the concerned agency would have any impact upon it as they have good bondage at the third floor of the government. One of the lady employees of Saraswati Vidhamandir of Jeypore having experiences of the poor services of the agency said ” My street light is defunct since a month and every night I have to fight against a snake. Nobody listens her” Such incidents are many.
It was also learnt from Mr. Sushil that most of the electricity workers have not been paid salaries for months. The executive officer is being reprimanded by the general public owing to the poor services of the agency for its utter negligence. Many are determined to go to Bhubaneswar to meet CM Naveen Patnaik and 5T secretary VK Pandian for the early and immediate resolution of the issues related to municipality electricity.
