Andhra Government Cites Lab Report In Row Over Animal Fat In Tirupati Laddoos – N.F Times

Tirupati: The Andhra Pradesh government has cited a laboratory report confirming the presence of animal fat in the ghee used to prepare the famous Tirupati laddoos, sparking a major controversy. The report has led to a political uproar, with accusations flying between the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The controversy began when TDP leader and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the laddoos, a sacred offering at the Sri Venkateswara Temple, were being made with substandard ingredients, including animal fat, during the tenure of the previous YSRCP government. Naidu’s allegations have been met with strong denials from YSRCP leaders, who have called the claims malicious and politically motivated .

In response to the allegations, the current administration has emphasized its commitment to maintaining the quality and sanctity of the laddoos. “We have ensured the use of pure ghee and improved sanitation at the temple,” stated a government spokesperson.

The issue has deeply affected the sentiments of devotees, with many expressing shock and disappointment. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the board managing the temple, has announced plans to conduct a thorough investigation to restore the faith of the devotees.
