Red Warning: Very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to lash Odisha districts on September 14 – N.F Times


Bhubaneswar: Due to prevalent monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy (>20cm) rainfall to occur over 13 districts of Odisha during next 24 hours. India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre today issued Red Warning in these districts and Orange Warning and Yellow Warning in some others for the next 24 hours.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD regional centre said, “Southwest monsoon has been active in Odisha. The Low Pressure Area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal now lies over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal and the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours and move across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh during next 3 days. The Monsoon Trough at mean sea level now passes through Bikaner, Tikamgarh, Daltonganj, Digha and thence southeastwards to the centre of Low Pressure Area over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal. The trough now runs from cyclonic circulation over southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh to the cyclonic circulation associated with the Low Pressure Area over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal across Chhattisgarh, Odisha and extends up to 3.1 Km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. The north-south trough from the cyclonic circulation associated with the Low Pressure Area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh between 4.5 and 7.6 Km above mean sea level has become less marked.”

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha. The highest maximum (day) temperature of 35.0oC was recorded at Paradip and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 22.0oC was recorded at Nuapada in the plains of Odisha.

Red Warning (Take Action)- Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy (>20cm) is likely to occur over the districts of Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur and Bolangir.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Angul and Ganjam.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) ) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Gajapati, Rayagada, Dhenkanal and Koraput.

For Thursday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 14.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 15.09.2023)

Orange Warning (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at a one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur and Ganjam.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Cuttack and Angul.
