Minor girl dead, mother critically injured in fatal road mishap in Odisha’s Ganjam – N.F Times

Aska: An 11-year-old girl was killed on the spot and her mother sustained grievous injuries as a scooter on which they were travelling was hit from behind by a speeding Hyva truck at Bada Sankha under Aska tehsil and this police limits in Ganjam.

The deceased minor was identified as Sraddhanjali Mohanty and her injured mother as Geetanjali Mohanty from Kusharao village under Dharakote police limits in the district.

According to a police source, the road mishap took place when the mother and daughter duo was on their way from their residence to a nearby school. Geetanjali is a teacher in the upper primary (UP) school located in Jayapur village under Aska tehsil limits.

The Hyva truck (bearing registration number OR-05 AL-6763) ran over Geetanjali’s legs leaving her critically injured. She was rescued by some locals from a pool of blood and rushed to Aska hospital for treatment. Later, she was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH) in Berhampur after her condition deteriorated.

On being informed by locals, Aska police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident. Police have seized the minor girl’s body and sent it to a hospital for post-mortem.

The Hyva truck has been detained and the detailed probe is underway, the official said.
