World Animal Day: Great or Small, Love Them All – N.F Times

[ad_1]

World Animal Day is observed globally on October 4 every year to celebrate animal rights and welfare.

On this day, animal lovers across the world unite to educate people and advocate for action against animal cruelty, neglect and any unfair treatment of animals. They urge everyone to make a difference and bring awareness of welfare to any type of animal that shares our planet.

World Animal Day official site stated, ”Today, we celebrate the diversity of the animal kingdom and reflect on the importance of animal welfare around the world. This year’s theme is “Great or Small, Love Them All,” and we want to take this opportunity to honour all animals and the special place they hold in our hearts.”

Whether it’s our beloved companions at home or the wild animals we admire from afar, animals of all shapes and sizes play a critical role in our lives. They bring us joy, comfort, and companionship, and they remind us of the interconnectedness of all living things, the statement said.

Also, the website added some ways to improve animal welfare conditions in the world irrespective of their size.

Ways to love animals:

  • Volunteer at a local animal shelter or rescue organisation.
  • Adopt an animal from a shelter instead of purchasing from a breeder or pet store.
  • Support organisations working to protect wildlife and their habitats.
  • Choose to consume plant-based foods or reduce your meat consumption to minimise harm to farm animals.
  • Take steps to reduce your environmental impact to protect all animals and their habitats.

However, the World Animal Day resolution was started by Heinrich Zimmermann, a cynologist, who organised the first celebration in 1925 at the Sports Palace in Berlin. That event was reportedly attended by over 5,000 people. In 1931, during the International Animal Protection Congress in Florence, Italy, October 4 was officially declared as World Animal Day. Emphasizing the significance of animal welfare advocacy, this historical decision marked global recognition.
