Rourkela : “Smart work involving creative and rational ideas with effective team work yields more results than only concentrating on spending grueling hours working hard,” said Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC) while addressing in the 5th session of ‘Lakshya-The target’. The unique HR communication exercise of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was organised on 13th September, 2022 at ‘Manthan’ Conference Hall. Mr. Naresh Kumar, CGM (Utilities & Environment), Mr. A K Nayak, CGM (TA & CSR) and Mr. S K Nayak, CGM (F&A) were also present on the occasion. The interactive session was attended by 30 employees of Blast Furnace department.
Applauding the overall performance of Blast Furnaces Department, the DIC said, “RSP recorded its best performance riding on your cumulative efforts. However, in order to negate the effects of factors beyond our control like rising input cost, market surplus and crashing prices, we need to step up our efforts to further enhance operational efficiency with special focus on enhanced cost effective production.” Mr. Bhowmick also emphasized upon efficient maintenance and proper housekeeping. “Let’s make committed efforts to achieve the set targets in the post monsoon period with quality of raw materials set to improve further and help the plant improve its profitability,” he concluded. While interacting with the employees, the DIC also touched upon varied issues like alleviating different issues of the unit, enhancing safety and skill level of outsourced employees.
Mr. Naresh Kumar in his address commended the perseverance of team Blast Furnaces which has set many a records in the past. He urged the collective to share innovative and path breaking solutions to any critical problem in their respective areas which might help in the holistic improvement in the performance.Mr. Ajay Kumar Nayak while speaking highly of the Blast Furnaces collective added that the Blast Furnaces collective is not only known for their in depth technical brilliance, but also for their humane behavior which reflects in the strong camaraderie the team shares. He urged them to use their innate potential to lead the plant to greater glory.
Mr. S K Nayak in his address said the Iron & Steel Zone has the greater responsibility in reducing cost of production. He also exhorted the collective to maintain the best integrated steel plant status by consistent good performance.
The session witnessed active participation of the employees who spoke on different issues pertaining to their areas of work. Mr. Sasanka Pattanaik, Assistant Manager (PR) coordinated the programme.
It is noteworthy that the HR exercise ‘Lakshya-The target’ was launched in April under the guidance of the DIC to provide a platform to the frontline employees of the Steel Plant to share their thoughts, ideas and suggestions on how the safety and productivity can be further improved while keeping employees motivated.
