Jajpur, Pratap Prusty : Balia, the birth place of Odia renowned poet Abhimanyu Samanta Singhar, is well known in Odisha for the Bidagdha Chintamani, a sublime composition of words and emotion in the poetry that establishes unconditional love between son Krishna and mother Yashoda. This remote village of Jajpur district is said to have got approval to be developed as a tourist place from the department of tourism, the Government of Odisha. However, in the last few days, it has been a matter of public discussion against the notification published for a FL Off shop, which is going to be opened soon in the outskirt of Balia, Jajpur.
According to the report, many Female SHG(Self Help Group), a group of educationists including the local Sarpanch of Balia have stepped down to the street to protest against the opening of a FL Off shop at one Samal Hotel, situated a few metres away from the Balia Chhak. As the local talk, the opening of FL Wine shop will influence the life of the surrounding of College, School, Library and many educational institutions. “It will damage the holiness of the soil of the great saint Abhimanyu Maharaj, as such we gather here to openly protest against the notification of the District Administration and we will not let it to tarnish the reputation of our great saint”, said one of the leaders of protesting groups. “We will fight till our last breath against this unethical action of the district administration that will lead to encourage the criminal activities in our area, our peaceful life is going to be hell, it will badly impact the life of us and our children’s “, said one of the lady protestors.
