Ganjam : The 57th Foundation day of Berhampur University has been celebrated in the Biju Pattnayak Auditorium hall under the chairmanship of the vice chancellor Prof. Geetanjali Dash on last Monday. The Skill Development Chairman and renowned educationalist and social worker Subroto Bagchi attended as the chief guest in the occasion. In his speech the chief guest predicted that it is the largest University of Southern Odisha whose campus has been named after Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja as “BHANJA BIHAR” the highest temple of learning. It has been expected that the university will be placed in the list of the best university of the world in the next two decades. The famous poet Padmashree Jayant Mahapatro has been awarded with the national prize of “KABI SAMRAT UPENDRA BHANJA NATIONAL AWARD” in this auspicious occasion. He has been awarded with the cash award of one lakh rupees along with the certificate and felicitation. In his speech Mr Mahapatra said that it has been his pride and pleasure to follow the prints Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja. Another padmashree awardee Purnamasi Jani has been awarded and felicitated with the award of “Southern Odisha cultural Award” with the cash award of twenty thousand and certificate. The alumni and jewel of BU who is working as the V.C of KIIT Autonomous University prof Sashmita Samanta has been felicitated by the chief guest. Some other dignitaries such as Purna Chandra Mahapatro, the renowned historian paralakhemundi and the renowned dramatist and cine director and actor Ramaraman Padhy has been felicitated in the occasion. At last the register of berhampur University prasanna Kumar Swain gave vote of thanks and declared close of the meeting.
