Rourkela : Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) felicitated a team of nurses and dressers of Burn unit of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of RSP for their commendable service in giving a fresh lease of life to a person who had sustained Critical Electrical Flash Burn injuries. The programme organized at the new conference hall of IGH on 10th May, was attended by Dr. B K Hota, ED (M&HS), the CMOs, other Senior Doctors, nurses, paramedics and staff of IGH. Mr.G R Dash, GM (Personnel- W, C, T & M, GA) coordinated the function.
Mr. Bhowmick congratulated the team for their commitment and dedication and urged all to emulate the same to further improve the quality of health care in IGH.
Notably, Mr. Umesh Mahato, aged 33 working for M/s Seimens and engaged in Power Distribution Department of RSP, had sustained electrical burn injuries in the face, neck, chestwall, abdomen, perineum and the lower limbs and was brought to the hospital on 1st December, 2022. As it was a burn case, serial excision of dead skin was done and necessary treatment provided. After the wound was found to be in healthy condition Dr. Girija Shankar Sahu, Consultant along with Dr. Seema Lakra, Assistant CMO and the Anaesthesia team led by Dr. Manoranjan Samantray, Deputy CMO conducted the Plastic Surgery involving Split Thickness Skin Grafting on the patient in the month of April to reconstruct facial and body tissue defects. The sisters who assisted in the nursing care were Sister. Jacinta Ekka, Sister. Pragya Mohanta and Sister Tilottama Mohanty. After receiving the post surgical satisfactory reports the patient was discharged on 8th May 2023.
Notably IGH has made a name for itself in treating cases of burn injury, skin grafting, plastic surgery, and is catering to several critical cases referred by hospitals sometimes beyond the state boundaries.
