Jajpur: A group of BJD workers allegedly attacked several agitating farmers at Chasakhanda Cooperative Society Office in Binjharpur constituency of Odisha’s Jajpur district, today.
According to reports, the farmers of Nilakanthapur and Muraripur villages had gone to the office alleging that Cooperative Society Secretary Tula Dhal was not providing them loan, cheque and passbook. They further alleged that money was being withdrawn from their accounts without their knowledge.
As the Secretary didn’t come to the office despite being requested by the farmers over phone, they staged a dharna in front of the office and locked it.
Moments later, more then 20 BJD workers allegedly launched attack on the agitators with sticks.
Bimal Malik, former Samiti Member of Palatpur, was critically injured in the attack.
“We were staging a peaceful protest, during which the BJD workers attacked us. Some of them also made casteist remarks at me. They snatched away my money purse and chain. I have sustained injuries on my neck and eye,” said Malik.
The Dasarathpur police have started an investigation into the incident.
