Bhubaneswar: Four veteran artistes from Odisha have been selected for Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award-2022.
Sangeet Natak Akademi has decided to felicitate as many as 86 senior artistes from across the country to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commemorating 75 years of India’s independence.
The select artistes are above 75 years of age and they have not been accorded any national honour in their career so far, sources said.
Sidheswar Das (Chhau Dance), Anant Mahapatra (Theatre), Ananda Bag (Brahma Veena folk music) and Gobinda Chandra Pal (Gotipua Dance) from Odisha have been selected for the one-time award provided by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation (Tamrapatra) and shawl (Angavastram).
The artistes will be felicitated with the award by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar in the presence of Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Meenakshi Lekhi at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 16.
