Puri: Several important documents, furniture, and fixtures were reduced to ashes as a fire broke out in SCS Autonomous College in Puri, today. However, no fatalities have been reported in the incident.
According to a private source, some locals noticed in the evening that thick smoke was emitting through the windows of the college’s post-graduate Department of Economics located on the first floor. Later, they informed the fire services personnel and the college authorities.
A team of firefighters reached the spot and doused the flames after striving for nearly an hour.
“Worth of the assets gutted in the inferno would be around Rs 1 lakh,” a fireman said.
The exact cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet. However, the blaze occurred probably due to an electrical short-circuit, an eyewitness expressed.
