Ram Lalla consecration: ‘World’s largest’ Diya to be lit at Odisha’s Rourkela – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: A voluntary organisation in Odisha’s Rourkela city has planned to light up a massive Diya (earthen lamp) to mark the consecration of Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on January 22.

Voluntary organization ‘Smile Forever Foundation’ has engaged a team of nine artisans led by Shambhu Prajapati from Kolkata to sculpt the massive earthen lamp, sources said.

The artisans started their work on December 26 last year and they will complete it by January 15. The earthen lamp will have a base diameter of 20 feet and a height of 5 feet, sources said.

“This earthen lamp will be the largest in the world and it can contain around 7,000 litres of ghee. A 15-metre long cotton wick for the lamp will be brought from Cuttack,” said a source in the voluntary organisation.

The earthen lamp will be taken to various educational institutions and localities in the Steel City to make people aware of the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya, it added.

“The lamp will be lit up at Hanuman Vatika in Rourkela at 5.30 pm on January 22. We are making all possible efforts so that the lamp will find a place in Guinness World Records,” said Santosh Biswal, the founder of Smile Forever Foundation.
