Bhubaneswar: As many as 83 cases of cheating have been registered against various fuel stations in Odisha in the last three years, informed Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak in the State Assembly, today.
The minister was replying to a question by MLA Sudhansu Sekhar Parida.
As per the information provided by the minister, 37 such cases were registered in 2020-21, 22 in 2021-22 and 24 in 2022-23. Fine of Rs 406000, Rs 343000 and Rs 317000 were collected in this regard in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23, respectively.
The minister’s answer revealed that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are undertaking the following measures to check adulteration at fuel stations in Odisha.
- The OMCs are taking stock of quality and measurement at fuel stations, once in three months. In case of any irregularity, oil samples are sent to laboratory for further action.
- Surprise checks are being carried out by Multi Disciplinary Teams at fuel stations.
- Oil samples are being collected and examined in mobile laboratories of OMCs, every month.
- Officers of OMCs are carrying out investigations if complaints of adulteration are brought to fore.
