Puri: Darshan of Lord Jagannath and His siblings at the Srimandir here will remain closed for three hours, today.
The public darshan will be closed from 6 pm to 9 pm, informed Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
The restriction on darshan will be imposed due to the Banakalagi rituals of the deities.
This ritual is performed every Wednesday or Thursday. Three Dattamahapatra servitors after grinding the ‘Banaka’ climb up the throne taking the paste and start the Banakalagi (painting the images). At the time of performing this service to the middle ‘Bada’, the Palia Mekap shows the baitha (Lamp) taking it from the Akhanda. After the ‘Banakalagi’ is over, the Dattamahapatras get down from the throne.
