Odapada: A man was allegedly roughed up by his younger brother today morning over a land dispute and he succumbed later in the day at Kaunriapal village of Gunadei panchayat under Motanga police limits in Dhenkanal district.
The deceased elderly man was identified as Padmacharan Mohanty, who belonged to the village.
According to a police source, at around 8.00 am, an altercation erupted between the two brothers over a family land dispute. Things took an ugly turn when, in a fit of rage, Padmacharan’s younger brother severely thrashed him leading to his death.
Padmacharan was rescued and rushed to a hospital for treatment in critical condition. The elderly man succumbed while undergoing treatment in the government-run health facility.
On being informed, Motanga police reached the hospital and seized the body. Police have detained the accused Barun Kumar Mohanty and Barun’s wife and son. The three are being interrogated.
Padmacharan’s body has been kept in the morgue of a hospital in Dhenkanal. “The reason behind the elderly man’s demise can be ascertained only after a post-mortem report comes in,” a senior cop said.
