Eight Critical In Rourkela Steel Plant Gas Leak, Hospitalised – N.F Times

Rourkela: Eight persons sustained critical injuries as carbon monoxide gas leaked in blast furnace no. 5 in Rourkela Steel Plant on Monday.

All the injured persons were admitted to the Ispat General Hospital immediately. The reason behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained.

Carbon monoxide is known as a “silent killer” as it is poisonous, acutely toxic, and potentially lethal in certain doses. It is also extremely flammable and classified as a health hazard. It can cause illness, hospitalization, and death. Because it has no odour or colour, it often goes undetected, striking unsuspecting victims in sleep or states of drunkenness.
