Jaishankar: India-China Ties Depends on Peace at LAC – N.F Times

During his meeting with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted that the current state of affairs between New Delhi and Beijing is abnormal. He stressed the necessity for both parties to address longstanding issues to ensure peace and tranquillity along the borders.

At the SCO Summit’s sidelines, Jaishankar reiterated that a normal relationship is contingent upon border peace and tranquillity.

“We have regularly met since 2020 to resolve the disengagement issue, which remains incomplete. It is imperative to find a solution that honours the LAC and maintains peace and tranquillity in the border regions. Disturbing these conditions is incompatible with a positive relationship,” stated Jaishankar.

He also mentioned that both leaders have consented to an expedited meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) to deliberate on the border situation.

“The current circumstances are detrimental to our relationship. We have resolved to prompt the WMCC to meet soon,” he added.

Jaishankar believes that both nations must actively seek resolutions to the protracted issues.

Commenting on the SCO Summit in Astana, he described it as successful from both the organization’s and India’s perspectives.

Jaishankar attended the SCO Summit in Astana, under the presidency of Kazakhstan.
