Wimbledon 2024: Medvedev Ousts Sinner In Five-Set Thriller, Clinches Semis Berth | Pragativadi | Odisha News, Breaking News Odisha, Latest Odisha News – N.F Times

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner was ousted from Wimbledon 2024 after a gruelling 4-hour quarter-final match against 5th seed Daniil Medvedev at Centre Court on Tuesday.

Sinner, entering the tournament fresh from his French Open victory, was outclassed by Medvedev, who shone in the final set. Medvedev endured a roller-coaster victory over Sinner with scores of 6-7(9), 6-4, 7-6(7), 2-6, 6-3.

The battle between the Italian world No. 1 and the US Open champion stretched over five intense sets, clocking in at exactly four hours. Medvedev’s triumph secured his second consecutive semi-final spot at the tournament, though he has yet to reach a Wimbledon final.

The match, marked by erratic momentum shifts, was more absorbing than thrilling. Nonetheless, Medvedev emerged victorious with a 6-7(7) 6-4 7-6(4) 2-6 6-3 win under the covered Centre Court, breaking his five-match losing streak against Sinner and revenging his Australian Open final loss to the Italian earlier this year, where he lost after leading by two sets.

Sinner clinched the first set in a close tiebreak, saving a set point, but his performance waned with creeping errors. After dropping the second set, he sought off-court treatment early in the third, seemingly unwell, leading to uncharacteristic mistakes and sluggish movement at times.

Medvedev described the match as odd in his on-court interview, noting the inconsistency in Sinner’s movement and simple shot execution.

Despite a third-set tiebreak loss, Sinner rallied in the fourth, pushing the match to a final set. Medvedev, however, secured an early break and maintained his lead to close the match in four hours, setting up a semi-final against either defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or American Tommy Paul.
