PM Modi Holds Meeting with Austrian Prez Van der Bellen – N.F Times


Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Alexander Van der Bellen, President of Austria in Vienna on Wednesday. President Van der Bellen congratulated PM Modi on his historic third term in office.

Prime Minister noted that his visit to Austria at a time when the two countries were celebrating 75 years of their diplomatic ties makes it historic and special.

The two leaders discussed bilateral and global issues of mutual interest. They shared thoughts on environmental sustainability and combating global warming. In this regard, the two leaders discussed mutually beneficial opportunities of collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, especially solar, hydro and biofuels.

PM Modi reiterated the invitation to President Van der Bellen to visit India at his convenience.

Following the meeting, PM Modi expressed his pleasure on social media X and posted, “Had a very good meeting with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and discussed ways to expand India-Austria cooperation.”

Later PM Modi and Chancellor Nehammer met and discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest, underscoring the importance of collaborative approaches to international challenges.

Additionally, they attended the India-Austria Business Forum, which convened approximately 40 companies from both countries to seek new economic prospects and bolster bilateral trade ties.

Following their high-level discussions, they also delivered a joint press statement for India and Austria.

Significantly, this marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years, with Indira Gandhi being the last to do so in 1983.
