Depression Over Southwest Bay of Bengal to Intensify, Heads Towards Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu – N.F Times


 

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding a depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours.

The system is currently moving north-northwestwards and is projected to continue on this path towards the coasts of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu over the next two days.

As of the latest update, the depression is located approximately 410 km southeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and is moving at a speed of 30 kmph.

The IMD has warned that the system could bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to the affected regions. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka are advised to prepare for potential impacts, including flooding and disruptions to daily life.

The IMD has also issued warnings for fishermen, advising them to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions expected in the Bay of Bengal. Authorities in both Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to stay informed through official channels.
