The Convocation ceremony for the Recognition of Prior learning Candidates (RPC) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was held at the Gopabandhu Auditorium on 16th September. Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) graced the occasion as the chief guest and inaugurated the grand programme. Mr. Sushim Banerjee, CEO, Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC) and Mr. Debabrata Dutta, Acting ED(Works) and CGM (HSM) were also present on the dais. The dignitaries lighted the ceremonial lamp amidst the soulful chanting of the hymns by the artists of RSP. The programme was attended by 99 RPL Candidates working in different areas of the plant. Several Chief General Managers and Senior Officers of RSP were also present on the occasion. The programme started with the recital of the national anthem. The Candidates were presented with a Certificate of Merit and a token of gift.
In his address, while congratulating the successful RPL candidates, Mr. Bhowmick said that these types of training not only contribute in enhancing skills amongst the employees but also motivate them to perform better at their workplace. He also deliberated upon the importance of Skill development, which is the most important part of any successful career journey. “Skill makes a person flexible, reliable, productive and efficient in the job and this widens the career opportunities”, he said. He urged all to develop their skill sets and knowledge for bringing about a larger transformation in self, family, organisation and the society.
In his address Mr. Debabrata Dutta deliberated upon the importance of skill development to create a knowledge based society which is a prerequisite for a technologically self reliant India.
A presentation on Objective, goal and initiative of Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council, as well as plans for the future thrust area was made by Mr.Sushim Banerjee, CEO, IISSSC. The dignitaries also awarded the quiz winners which was organised prior to commencement of the programme.
At the outset, Ms. Rajashree Banerjee,CGM(HRDC) welcomed the gathering. Mr. H.N.Pati, GM(HRD) proposed a vote of thanks. Mrs. Arnnapurana Behera, Sr. Manager(HRD) was the master of ceremony.
It may be mentioned that as per the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Skill Development for the youth of the country, HRDC of RSP has undertaken a project to provide training to candidates in line with the guidelines laid down by Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC) under the SKILL INDIA MISSION.
