Police arrest key accused in medical job fraud case in Odisha’s Sundargarh – N.F Times

Sundargarh: A middle-aged man, who is the prime accused in a medical job fraud case, was arrested today in Sundargarh district. He had been absconding for around the last nine months.

The accused has been identified as the former headmaster of Kankerjura school Basant Tajan.

According to a source, Sundargarh Town police nabbed Basant in connection with the case. After a case was previously registered against his name at the PS, Basant went incommunicado and had been residing in neighbouring Jharsuguda district.

Police had earlier arrested five other accused persons on April 17, 2023. They were identified as medical staff Chaitanya Tanti from Kalobahal, middleman Susanta Majhi from Tasaladihi, Madan Gardia from Mahulapali, photocopy shop owner Asish Naik from Mission Road, and Basundhara high school science teacher Somnath Pruseth from Giringakela.

Subsequently, after five months, another accused named Hemant Nayak was also arrested.

Basant was forwarded to a local court later in the day.

Worth mentioning, the fraudsters allegedly duped more than Rs 30 lakh from 56 job aspirants.
