Bhubaneswar: Popular actress Rachana Banerjee, who had acted in several Odia, Bengali and Hindi movies, will fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from neighbouring West Bengal.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Bengal has fielded Rachana from Hooghly Lok Sabha seat.
The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC today announced its candidates for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal.
The party has given ticket to cricketer Yusuf Pathan from Baharampur seat, which is now represented by Congress heavyweight Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
The TMC has dropped actress Nusrat Jahan, the sitting MP from Basirhat, from the list. However, Mohua Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha in a bribe-for-question scam, has been given ticket to fight the polls from Krishnanagar seat.
Actor Saayoni Ghosh has been nominated by the TMC to contest from Jadavpura constituency, which was earlier represented by actress Mimi Chakraborty.
Rachana (49) had acted several popular Odia movies including Santan, Lakshman Rekha, Sakala Tirtha To Charane, Bhai Hela Bhagari, Lakhe Siba Puji Paichi Pua, Subhadra, Ganga Jamuna, and Pua Mora Bhola Sankar. She was a household name in Odisha in the 1990s.
