New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu assumed the role of a teacher for the students at a central school within the President’s Estate, engaging them in a discussion on global warming and proposing methods for environmental conservation.
In her interactive session with the ninth graders of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya in Delhi, she underscored the importance of water conservation and urged them to plant more trees to mitigate climate change effects.
“We ought to plant more trees. We must also endeavour to curtail water wastage and preserve it via rainwater harvesting,” Murmu stated.
She further addressed the issue of air pollution and explored strategies to diminish it.
At the outset of her interaction, the president inquired about the student’s aspirations and favoured subjects, expressing delight upon discovering their ambitions to become scientists and doctors, among other professions.
Murmu also highlighted the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, encouraging the students to commemorate their birthdays by planting a tree.
This interaction coincided with the completion of her two-year tenure as president.
Born on June 20, 1958, in Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, Murmu was inaugurated as the nation’s 15th President on July 25, 2022.
Before her presidency, she served as the governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.
A passionate reader with a profound interest in spirituality, Murmu has dedicated her life to uplifting the underprivileged and marginalized communities, as well as reinforcing democratic principles.
“I relished the interaction with you. It afforded me the chance to learn considerably from you all. Being ninth graders, your awareness of global warming’s impact is commendable. I am confident that as you mature, the issue of global warming will see a decline,” she remarked at the close of her session.
