Rourkela : ‘Vihaan’, the first Coil exhibit of Hot Strip Mill – 2 of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was inaugurated by Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works) on 31st January 2023 to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the first coil rolled at HSM-2. Present on the occasion were Mr. Debabrata Dutta, CGM (HSM), Mr. R K Muduli, CGM (HSM-2), other CGMs, Senior Officers and employees of the Department. A cake cutting ceremony was also held to mark the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion ED (Works) congratulated the HSM – 2 collective for the stupendous achievement starting from commissioning of the Mill and urged all to keep up the momentum. Mentioning about the exhibit room Mr. Suryawanshi said “Let the first coil remind us of the hard work, dedication, commitment, technical acumen and collective potential to carry forward the pursuit of excellence in every aspect of our working.”
The exhibit room has been developed on the Shop floor near the entrance of HSM – 2 having the front side fitted with heat proof transparent glass for better look and visibility. The other three sides are devoted as ‘Wall of Fame’ bearing photographs of the first coil, important milestones and achievements along with VVIP visits to carry the tales of toil and tears to the future generations. Each of the photos is adorned with a profile and focus lighting to enhance the beauty.
The name ‘Vihaan’ meaning dawn of the new era has been suggested by the employees suggesting that the state of art Hot Strip Mill-2 will ushering a brighter future for the Steel Plant. It is worth mentioning here that, the 3 Million Tonne per annum (MTPA) capacity Mill, with few parallels in India, is equipped with the latest and sophisticated technology, the Mill has the ability to meet the stringent requirements of the customers in terms of quality, finish, dimensions and other parameters.
