Cuttack: A notorious criminal was arrested following an encounter at Sadar police limits area in Cuttack city.
The criminal has been identified as Manoj Maharana alias Mangu, a resident of Bhanpur under Sadar police limits in Cuttack.
The accused has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as he sustained bullet injuries on his left leg in the encounter.
According to reports, Mangu, an active member of Tapu gang, is the prime accused in a recent dacoity case in Kandarpur area. He is involved in many criminal cases including 8 dacoity cases and illegal arms trade registered at different police stations in the state.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Commissionerate police had conducted a raid at Sadar area last night. To escape from the police clutches, Mangu opened fire at the team. In its defense, the police also started firing. The criminal was injured in the retaliation.
Mangu was the accused in many criminal cases. He was the prime accused in a recent dacoity case in Kandarpur. He was injured in the exchange of fire. He is undergoing treatment at the SCB hospital, informed Cuttack Additional DCP Anil Kumar Mishra.
