Special local holiday declared for day following Nuakhai in these Western Odisha districts – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government today announced special local holiday for the day following Nuakhai festival (i.e September 21), a notification issued in this regard mentioned.

Based on the recommendation of Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC)-Northern Division in Sambalpur, the Revenue & Disaster Management department authorised the RDC to declare the day following the agrarian festival Nuakhai as a special local holiday for the Bargarh and Sambalpur districts, including Sundargarh Sadar subdivision, the notification issued by RDC, Northern Division stated.

“Accordingly, the Revenue Divisional Commissioner, Northern Division, Sambalpur has been pleased to declare a Special Local Holiday in respect of Bargarh, Sambalpur District and Sundargarh Sadar Sub-division on the day following Nuakhai, i.e., on 21.09.2023 (Thursday),” the notification read.

Earlier, a similar announcement was made for Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Jharsuguda districts.

It is pertinent to mention, this year, the first harvested crop will be offered as ‘Nabanna’ to the presiding deity in Sambalpur at stipulated Lagna (auspicious moment) between 10.27 am and 10.42 am.
