Keonjhar: In a freak road mishap, a driver and a helper were killed on the spot today as the goods carrier truck in which they were travelling fell off a bridge after the driver lost control of the ill-fated vehicle near Kaipur of Suakati under Sadar police limits on NH-49 in Keonjhar district.
Identities of the two deceased have not been ascertained yet, a senior police official said.
According to the official source, the speeding truck was on its way from Kolkata in West Bengal to Sambalpur. Both the persons got trapped in the truck leading to their untimely deaths.
On being informed by some locals, Sadar police reached the spot and seized the bodies and sent them to a nearby health facility for post-mortem. Police have launched a probe into the incident.
“As it was raining heavily, the road mishap might have occurred due to poor road visibility. The driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and met with an accident,” an eyewitness expressed.
