Baripada: A man and his wife died on the spot in a fatal road mishap that took place today afternoon as the motorcycle on which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a speeding truck at Dwarasuni Ghat on NH-49 under Bangiriposi police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
The identity of the two deceased has not been ascertained yet, a senior police official said.
According to the official source, the couple was on their way from Bisoi to Baripada town in the district when they met with an accident leading to their untimely deaths.
The driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and hit the ill-fated motorcycle. Following this, the truck dashed against a tree on the roadside. However, the truck driver fled from the accident spot soon after committing the crime, an eyewitness stated.
On being informed by some locals, Bangiriposi police reached the spot and seized the bodies. Police have launched a probe into the road mishap, which is underway.
