Puri: A male devotee felt sick today and collapsed on the ground while having Darshan of the deities in Jagannath temple of Puri. Later, the man was declared dead in hospital.
The deceased devotee was identified as 65-year-old Rayan Prasad Sen, who belonged to Ranchi city of Jharkhand. He had come to Puri for sightseeing along with some of his relatives.
According to a police source, the sexagenarian was standing near Bahara Katha inside the shrine when he felt uneasy and became unconscious. Immediately, his family members and relatives shifted him to outside the temple premises and then to Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH) by an ambulance vehicle for treatment. However, doctors at the health facility declared him ‘brought dead’.
“The elderly man died following a cardiac arrest,” a senior doctor of the hospital expressed.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has requested the local administration to take the body to their native place. “Probably, we will take the body after all formalities are over,” a family member said.
