Jagatsinghpur: As many as seven persons got swept away in the Devi river when they were performing the tenth-day (Dasah) rituals of their relative today near Baredia under Baisi Mouza in Jagatsinghpur. Six of them were later rescued, of which 2 died while undergoing treatment. One has gone missing.
The two deceased are brothers in relation but their identities have not been ascertained yet.
According to a source, the seven persons were swept away for reasons not known so far. Six of them were rescued by some locals and rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment. The health condition of two of them was critical and the brother duo died in the hospital and four others are safe now.
On being informed, a team of local fire services personnel launched a frantic search but the missing person has not been traced yet. “We might stop searching after the fall of night,” an official said.
Worth mentioning, the seven persons had congregated at a Ghat of Devi river to perform the Dasah rituals of a BSF jawan named Satya Pal, who previously died after he met with a road mishap.
The search operation was underway till the time when this report was filed.
