Balasore: The locals detained a Jatra troupe vehicle at Gopalpur area in Balasore district for allegedly not staging a show even despite payment of advance amount to the troupe.
According to reports, Baripada Jagannathpur Jatra Committee members detained the vehicle of Gouri Gananatya Jatra troupe that had staged a Jatra at Nuapur village under Gopalpur police limits in Balasore district two days ago.
The members alleged that Jatra Mayanagari was paid Rs 1 lakh towards the advance amount last year for showing a Jatra. However, the show was not presented, nor the payment was refunded after the Mayanagari merged into Gouri Gananatya.
Reports said that three other Jatra committees of Bhadrak district had also paid advance money to the above Jatra troupe.
On receiving information about the Jatra troupe, the Jagannathpur Jatra Committee as well as three others rushed to the area and restricted the troupe’s vehicle to proceed further. The complainants went to the Gopalpur Police Station seeking police action for refund of the advance money.
